Official site says Masha will be performing Michishirube. I wonder will Emiri Miyamoto make an appearance since it could be Michishirube 2010. Sorry if I sound unexcited. I was hoping for a faster number, utilising the energy of 12000 very eager fans. Michishirube is such a safe song and a song with way too much exposure. Japanese fans are very happy with this choice but for me for such a vast catalogue of songs, he only resings the few same songs repeatedly. This is a rather personal and sentimental song so it might suit this event where the theme is "Connections" and this is Masha's "Life connections" but for once I wish he break out of the shell. Shounen would have been my choice and it is quite a song about life connections.
The news proper...
This is the 61st year of the Kouhaku. With the end of its 'memorial' 60th year, this is the Kouhaku's first step into a new era. The theme for this year is "Connecting through Song". Radio, television, digital broadcast, mobile phones, internet.....public media has diversified with the times. Nevertheless, the song is "what connects people together", and the mission of the Kouhaku to deliver songs to the nation, remains unchanged regardless of the change in times. Therefore, the 61st Kouhaku will look once more at the theme which had been the starting point of the Kouhaku, and through to the present day: "Connections." [Translated by Izumisano, Source]
Previously posted here, as speculated, indeed it will be a live broadcast from the concert hall EXCEPT fans at the concert hall get to attend the concert much earlier. Basically it means that the concert will start as schedule BUT before the start, say maybe hour or so earlier Masha will perform for Kouhaku from the hall. That means 12,000 fans cheering (way more than those in the NHK Hall I would dare say!) and sort of works things out with WOWOW since there's no problem with copyright an all. Wouldn't it be better if fans come in red and white shirts or something of those colours and camera pans over and the hall sees all that? Kinda reaffirm Masha's position in the music world eh? Anyway general ticket sale only on 24.12.2010? I thought it is sold out?!

Singer Masaharu Fukuyama (41) has confirmed that, like last year, he will be participating in the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen by remote broadcast. He and 12,000 of his fans will appear on screen, broadcasting live from the Pacifico Yokohama.
Before Fukuyama was announced as part of the lineup, he had already scheduled four concerts at Pacifico Yokohama for December 27, 28, 30, and 31. The show on the 31st is a New Year's Eve countdown concert, with the venue opening at 9:30pm and Fukuyama scheduled to begin performing at 11:00pm. Instead of performing in the studio for Kohaku earlier in the evening and then rushing to Yokohama, it was decided that he would participate remotely due to logistical problems.
At some point after 10:00pm and before his concert begins, Fukuyama and his already-seated audience will make their Kohaku appearance.
In 2009, Fukuyama participated in Kohaku via a live broadcast from his hometown in Nagasaki. However, this time promises to be different with the addition of thousands of cheering fans.
Fukuyama has also announced that the countdown concert will be broadcast live on WOWOW and in approximately 50 movie theaters across Japan. Those who attend the theater viewings will receive the same souvenir goods that will be distributed to fans at the actual concert. General ticket sales will begin on December 24, with each ticket priced at 3,000 yen.
