Ryoma takes cover in Omiya, an inn in Kyoto, where he starts to write a political guideline for the new government, and starts recruiting people regardless of their rank and social status to establish a new government system. Ryoma tells Yataro to bring happiness to the Japanese by succeeding as a business entrepreneur. Meanwhile, Mimawarigumi, a group formed by the Tokugawa shogunate to guard the imperial city of Kyoto and harbors deep grudges against Ryoma, frantically searches for Ryoma. On November 15, while Ryoma and Nakaoka are exchanging their thoughts on the future at Omiya, Mimawarigumi makes a raid.

PLOT SUMMARY
SPOILERS ALERT!

From what I read, this episode showed Ryoma having talks with his dead friends. I wonder did this episode show him talking to his dead mother? I mean that would be apt, after all she was the one who inspired him the path he took that led to his death. All I know is Ryoma was assassinated but had one of the longest dying scene as he had many lines even before death and Yataro was shown on his deathbed and I believed died in the end. Oryo went to Tosa to visit his family after his death. This episode did not put forward any theories as to who actually sent the killers but Yataro seems to recognise them? Ryoma mumbling to himself and dying. Then the scene cuts to Yataro screaming in the rain and then Oryo by the beach at I believe Tosa and seeing Ryoma's sister which meant she's in Tosa and she was crying, since this was morning so she must have known what happened. Last scene was some flashbacks as present Yataro lies in bed crying and looking like a demented man. Words appear to tell us when Yataro died. The end.

SPOILERS ALERT!
I love the assassination scene but I hate the ending scene for Yataro. It should have been a more dignified way to show his regrets, his losing of his only friend, etc. That final part was too melodramatic. And a bit on what happens to everybody else would be great since although this is a story told by Yataro about Ryoma, others deserve a mention. I have a feeling it did not end with what actually happens after his death, as to the restoration of power, etc, probably just a mention. I find that wise considering what happened much much later in 20th century. I am still quite bitter how the story ended for Yataro. He deserves better. After all this was the man who founded Mitsubishi which still stands today. I just find his contribution to history as presented by Ryoma-Den especially the last episode negligible. The actor certainly deserves better. Masha was great in his death scene and I thought that scene was tastefully done although impliedly very very violent. But the sister and wife looked exceedingly calm considering how he actually died. In fact it was as if the story is of no more concern after his death but what he did and his subsequent death at such an age cemented the legend around him, in my opinion. So a bit of grieving would be realistic. I just find everything after his death was done in such a rush, it kills the momentum of the earlier scene.

Anyway, the assassination scene and Izumisano explaining in detail about that scene;

SPOILERS ALERT!On Nakaoka's "Ikan!", Imai Nobuo (the kabuki actor) rushes in and first horizontal cut across Ryoma. Then a vertical cut down on his head which wasn't shown clearly. Nakaoka shouts "Ryoma!" Ryoma counters the third but his sword is thrown off and he gets cut on the side of the body and then stabbed. Doesn't show where except Imai keeps pushing down a few times (or sideways ) Then sound of sword being pulled out and immediately stabbed back in for like 2 secs, then pulled out again. Which cause Ryoma to double up.

The series went out with a bang! 21.3%, which means it broke the 20% barrier. However the forum did say  the weighted average rating (because first ep and last ep are 75min) is 18.72%. I am not sure what is weighted average rating. is it the 4 seasons combined but the fact that first and last episode is 75 minutes long instead of 45 minutes so it has to be averaged out? Not the highest for taiga dramas but still a monumental achievement.
